Feature: I've Never Played Final Fantasy 7 Before, But I'm Liking The Remake On Xbox So Far
Wed Jan 14 2:45 pm

The Play Anywhere functionality is amazing as well.

With so many games on the market, it's not uncommon for people to accidentally gloss over some absolute classics over the years, and one of those for me is Final Fantasy 7. I've always loved the look of the PS1 game, but Legend of Dragoon is the similar RPG that I was devoting my time to back in the day, and FF7 never ended up getting a look-in.

Yes, I know you can still play the original on Xbox these days, and perhaps at some point I'll get around to it, but with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the horizon, I thought this provided a good opportunity to check out the demo ahead of the full game's Xbox release on January 22nd. And you know what? I'm really liking it so far!

Feature: If Forza Horizon 6's Leaked Launch Date Is Real, Xbox's 2026 Schedule Is Shaping Up Very Nicely
Wed Jan 14 12:00 pm

A festival of games.

Well, after plenty of rumour and hearsay suggesting that Forza Horizon 6 could be a first half of 2026 title, a new leak has narrowed that down to May, and if this date is real — as multiple sources suggest — Xbox's release schedule for next year could be very tasty indeed.

Xbox Partners With Kojima To Fix Major Save Bug In Death Stranding Director's Cut
Wed Jan 14 11:00 am

It had been plaguing the Xbox PC version.

We've been absolutely loving Death Stranding Director's Cut ever since it landed on Xbox Series X and Series S in late 2024, but there's been a major bug that's been plaguing the Xbox PC / Play Anywhere version for ages now.

Basically, if you played the PC version for anything longer than around 30-60 minutes, there was a chance it would stop recording your progress. This is an issue that Windows Central editor Jez Corden has talked about many times:

Hytale Set For Eventual Xbox Release As Game Racks Up Millions Of Players On Day One
Wed Jan 14 6:00 am

Developed by the team behind the Minecraft 'Hypixel' server.

Over 10 years ago, the team behind the popular Minecraft multiplayer server known as "Hypixel" decided to embark on creating their own Minecraft-style game called Hytale, but after multiple years of delays, the game was officially cancelled in June 2025. Then, miraculously, the game's original co-founder purchased the IP from Riot Games, re-hired a bunch of developers, and planned Hytale's early access launch for January 13th of 2026.

That launch obviously happened yesterday, and it seems to have been a ridiculous success — it's been suggested that Hytale had a concurrent player count of almost 3 million at one point, and it was also the most-watched game on Twitch (for a period), with 420,000 people tuning into streams of it.

We miss you at Xbox, Larry!

We've spoken about Major Nelson many times here at Pure Xbox — he's known for having been the face of Xbox marketing for over two decades until he left Microsoft in 2023, while also working on tons of other features at Xbox over the years including achievements, Party Chat, cloud saves, in-game messaging and a whole lot more.

Following his departure from Xbox a couple of years ago, Major Nelson (real name Larry Hryb) revealed in early 2024 that he was joining the community team at Unity, specifically as a "director of community and advocacy".

Tue Jan 13 1:00 pm

Have you been a fan since 2001?!

2026 promises to be a year of celebration for Xbox, at least in terms of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox console, which first released all the way back on November 15th of 2001.

With that in mind, we're keen to know about your very first ever Xbox memory! We're assuming some Xbox members will go all the way back to that 2001 release date, and maybe even earlier to when The Rock and Bill Gates first unveiled the original Xbox console at CES 2001.

Control Resonant 'Isn't A Safe Sequel' And Will Be Remedy's 'Most Ambitious Game' On Xbox
Tue Jan 13 12:00 pm

"We wanted to challenge ourselves".

Since Control dropped in 2019, most fans have been eager to see what a bigger and better sequel might look like - and with Control Resonant now announced as the team's follow-up for a 2026 launch, Remedy is starting to build hype and set expectations for its next game after the excellent Alan Wake 2. Simply put, it sounds like Remedy is taking some big risks with this one.

Following on from what was quite a close-quarters, melee-focused introductory trailer at The Game Awards last month (which you can refresh yourself on up above), Remedy has doubled down on this being a bold change of pace for the team. The Finnish studio says Resonant "is not a safe sequel" and is ultimately "the biggest and most ambitious game we’ve ever made".
