La Sécurité’s Bingo! Is The Art-Punk Party Record Your Weekend Needs
Fri Jun 12 5:07 pm

When our pal Ryan Leas covered Pop Montréal for us a few years back, he brought back word of La Sécurité, who he described as a brooding and shadowy art-punk band with a dash of Devo's playfulness. That francophone combo is back today with Bingo!, their second LP, and I didn't want to head into the weekend without recommending it.

In 2018, the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody became the highest-grossing musician biopic of all time. It accumulated awards, with Rami Malek winning a Golden Globe for his performance as Freddie Mercury and the film taking home Best Picture. Now, Michael has broken the record, bringing in $911.9 million worldwide.

When post-punk iconoclast Mark E. Smith passed away from lung and kidney cancer in 2018, the Fall had been working on a new album. Now, that album is finally coming out. It's called Post Script, and the lead single "30 Degrees" is here.

Fousheé – “Drive”
Fri Jun 12 2:34 pm

In the past, I've referred to Fousheé as an alt-R&B singer. That's a pretty vague genre tag, but it doesn't really apply anymore. No genre tag does. Fousheé seems perfectly happy wandering all over the map, and she's made some extremely cool music along the way. Last year, Fousheé teamed up with Yung Lean and Iceage's Elias Rønnenfelt on the one-off single "Little Gods." Fousheé and Rønnenfelt did a Smerz remix together, too. Today, Fousheé releases "Drive," the new song that Rønnenfelt produced.

Leaves drop every autumn, and this year that includes the Album Leaf. Jimmy LaValle's longstanding ambient/electronic/post-rock project will release their ninth LP, A Body Of Voices, in October. It will feature LaValle's recent singles with Stephen McBean of Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops, Spencer Zahn, Maiah Manser, and Aisha Badru, as well as a new team-up with Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters, who has apparently been making the rounds after her solo debut Myopia two years ago; she also appears on the new Bonobo album.

Gloorp – “Ice Bath” (Feat. Chasia)
Fri Jun 12 1:32 pm

Back in May we learned of the latest album from Garrett Burke, the Philly producer and percussionist known as Gloorp. It's out in July, and pleasingly, it's called Gloorp Life. (The last one was called Gloorp 'Em Up. This guy is good at naming things.)

Elvis Costello Knocks Oasis, Defends Olivia
Fri Jun 12 1:09 pm

Elvis Costello will say whatever. He doesn't care. In the past, that tendency has gotten him into trouble. He was famously banned from Saturday Night Live earlier in his career, and he once said some drunken, racist stuff against Ray Charles that he's still apologizing for decades later. (Don't Google that. It'll bum you out.) Today, Costello is a beloved figure of the rock 'n' roll establishment; he just sang one of his songs with Stephen Colbert on Colbert's final Late Show last month. But Costello is still just saying whatever, even about British national heroes Oasis.

Matt Proxy Announces Debut Album Trojan Horse Feat. fakemink, Current Joys, & Grimes
Fri Jun 12 12:35 pm

A few months ago, Matt Proxy, a 19-year-old rapper/producer from Minneapolis, went viral for his closing verse on the 2026 Underground Sound cypher, a kind of summit meeting of extremely-online rage-rap kids. This summer, Proxy will tour with JPEGMAFIA. He'll also release his debut album Trojan Hose, which is set to feature some prominent guests.

Morrissey Says Political Activists Have Been Posing As Him Online, Including One Linked To Former Smiths Bandmate
Fri Jun 12 12:05 pm

While Morrissey is still popular enough to headline festivals in America, his career suffered in the past few years, largely thanks to evidence of his fucked-up political ties, such as the time that he wore a button supporting the right-wing extremist group For Britain while performing on The Tonight Show in 2019. Last year, though, Morrissey claimed that he was the victim of a "decades-long campaign of fraud, disinformation, and defamation" that aimed to tie him to far-right politics. Now, Morrissey claims that he has identified nine people who have posed as him online, including one with ties to one of Morrissey's former bandmates in the Smiths.

Olivia Rodrigo Shares “stupid song” Video, Performs It For The First Time On Jimmy Kimmel
Fri Jun 12 11:46 am

Olivia Rodrigo's heavily anticipated new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is finally out today. As if the great early singles "drop dead" and "the cure" and the involvement of figures like Robert Smith and Weyes Blood hadn't already convinced the discerning listeners of the world to care, Rodrigo did a ton of promo on the LA leg of her press tour this week. That included a surprise appearance at 102.7 KIIS FM listening event, a pop-up for AMEX, a love advice radio show with iHeartRadio, and two nights on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
